The Valley Smithey was founded in 1993 by Mike Reinard. The Smithey is currently located in the heart of Pennsylvania Dutch Country. Mike has spent years attending living history events all over the United States. This has allowed him to meet many talented master craftsmen. These master craftsmen along with his interest in 18th century history is what quickly fueled his desire to become a blacksmith. Over the next 25 years Mike's shop quickly grew. His first big opportunity came at a local amusement park located in Elysburg, Pennsylvania, where he ran their blacksmith shop. In 2004, Mike left the park to set out on his own. At this time, he also began employment at a living history museum in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. He brought his large amount of knowledge and experience to educate hundreds of children and tourists about blacksmithing. Mike continues to share his knowledge with many different apprentices who work alongside him on a regular basis. Including his three sons Dylan, Noah, and Isaac. Mike has also worked rigorously under several master blacksmiths. In 2016 Mike was selected for the Early American Life’s Directory of Traditional American Crafts. This is an honor bestowed on a handful of artisans who are some of the best traditional craftsman working today.
Today Mike’s type of work does vary from traditional 18th century reproductions to more modern work. The Valley Smithey Ironworks specializes in hand forged personalized horseshoes crafted in traditional methods. Other more modern types of work that is offered are welding, steel fabrication, CNC laser cutting and casting new swage blocks. Mike’s work can be found all over the world from the streets of Williamsburg, VA, The US. Capital to as far away as Australia.
Mike believes in taking the time to do things right the first time. Everyone knows Mike has an attention to details!
